Hopeful students have been left ‘heartbroken’ after University of Liverpool sent 119 ‘you’re placed emails’ to students in error, only for them to be revoked hours later. The mistake is said to be due to last minute changes by the university, which has said it is ‘extremely sorry’ for the uncertainty caused. Clare Tolley, who’s daughter’s place was revoked, said the university and UCAS had a lot to answer for. ‘We are absolutely devastated.

Teachers, myself and Maddie have attempted all day to contact Liverpool and we are unable to speak to anyone for answers.’You wouldn’t sit a driving test, be told congratulations you’ve passed – only then for the examiner to change their mind,’ Ms Tolley told MailOnline.  University of Liverpool (pictured) has said it is ‘extremely sorry’ for the uncertainty causedMs Tolley described how her daughter’s morning went from relief to stress, she said: ‘She was due to study Business Management, she had received her email from UCAS at 8am congratulating her of securing her place, only to have her UCAS application updated at 9:30am with an unsuccessful place, offering her second choice.’The teachers portal also confirmed that she had secured her first place offer.

A refresh of the screen at 9:45am then changed.’Many applicants and their family members took to  to express their anger, one concerned mother said her daughter had been left very upset. ‘Daughter had a Ucas email congratulating her on her place at her firm choice University of Liverpool this morning only to then find on the ucas site an hour later that she was unsuccessful with a place offered by her insurance uni,’ Joanne Mackay wrote on , now known as X. Another has branded the error ‘an absolute disgrace’.

Rosie Taylor wrote: ‘My brother was over the moon when he got an email to say he’d got in to study Business at Liverpool, only to be told 2 hour later it was a mistake despite getting an A* in the subject he wants to study!’  Hopeful students have been left ‘heartbroken’ as University of Liverpool sent 119 ‘you’re placed emails’ to students in error, only for them to be revoked hours late’Getting his hopes up for nothing, this is NOT fair,’ she added.  The error was confirmed by UCAS, who posted on social media: ‘We’ve been made aware that 119 applicants were incorrectly sent a „you’re placed“ email at 8am this morning.

This was due to last minute changes by the uni, after we took the data for the communication send. ‘Applicants can discuss any concerns they have around the change in status directly with the course provider and they will explain what to do next.’  One hopeful student named Ella said she had been left ‘heartbroken’ and that the issue needed sorting. Angry sister Phoebe Lams said she was ‘appalled’ and that it was ‘completely unfair on those spending the day waiting for Liverpool Fotbollströja results’.  A spokesperson for the University said: ‘We can confirm that a small number of applicants unfortunately received incorrect information about their application status via UCAS this morning.’We are extremely sorry for the concern and uncertainty this caused.
